Zit Zapper and Face-Washing Brush Make the List of 2008 Skin Care Trends
Skin care is an always advancing technology with new products being tested, developed and marketed. Some of these products start as trends only to fade away, while some have staying power and find their ways into beauty routines for years to come. Here’s a list of some of 2008’s skin care trends and products:
An Organic Standard
Now that organic beauty products can receive the USDA seal to indicate its degree of purity, look for a regulatory standard and seal for natural beauty products. Burt’s Bees, which launched the initiative, has indicated that the Natural Standard Seal will require at least 95 percent natural ingredients and pure processing methods to make the mark. “We’re starting at a higher percentage because most consumers believe if a product stays it’s natural, it must be so, but that’s just not been the case,” said Mike Indursky, chief marketing officer for Burt’s Bees.
Zap Blemishes Away
A new slew of at-home beauty appliances are about to join the Zeno zit zapper and the Clarisonic face-washing brush. Watch for products that will offer many of the same mechanics of spa-grade devices, such as the Mini-Marvel, which use LED light to diminish wrinkles, acnes and blotches.
Tress Relief
While known to aide in potential hair growth, scalp massages are becoming full-length spa treatments for relaxation. In Los Angeles, spas such as the Ole Henriksen body treatments may also include hair conditioning. Asks Hendricksen, “Why should spa services stop at the hairline?”
New Targets for Anti-Aging
Anti-aging doesn’t just stop at the face any longer. Spas are turning the focus to the neck, d’collet, bust, and overall body by popular demand. Spa and retail shelves are stocking creams, exfoliators and more. Sylvie Hennessey, creator of Pevonia Botanica, which launched Tropicale anti-aging body treatments recently said, “Clients want their bodies treated for wrinkling and sun damage too.”
Some Familiar Friends
More products touting firming and lifting properties will make their way to the shelves. And in them (look at the label on the back) are the same proven ingredients, such as retinol, vitamin C and peptides people have been using to treat wrinkles and blotches.
Bat the Eyes
More products will bring the focus on thickening and lengthening lashes, despite the FDA’s crackdown on one manufacturer, Jan Marini, for claiming its products could make lashes grow. Products include RevitaLash and Osmotics FNS Nutrilash.
Correct rather than Conceal
The new anthem for makeup is to correct the flaws rather than hide them. Leaders in this market include Elizabeth Arden’s ceramide line. Other products include Kimiko Beauty’s firming eye shadow and Joey NY’s under-eye concealer which includes anti-aging peptides. Mineral essential makeup has been popular for its lack of irritants and UV protection. “This concept goes one step farther,” said Kimiko founder Danielle Vincent, “Your skin is actually better for having used it.”
A-Peeling Treatments
Spas are developing less aggressive forms of chemical peels which are lower in acids and higher in skin soothers such as green tea. This scaling back in potency offers new variations of the at-home peel. “It’s wonderful as long as the percentage of acid is low,” said New York City facial plastic surgeon Yael Halaas, MD. “Too high a concentration or too frequent use can lead to damage.”
Bullion Bling
Spas and their customers are in love with gold as a facial ingredient. At about US0 for an ounce of serum with gold is more bling than benefits. While down-right decadent, gold is still yet to be proven an effective anti-ager.
Anti-Age the Amazon Way
English rose and French lavender may have a new contender in town. Product lines are turning to the Amazon basin as its new spa-beauty garden. Its indigenous plants, fruits and nuts are high in antioxidants and skin-nourishing oils. For example, Amazon Beauty contains acai, buriti and guarana fruit. Inara Organics is based on the babassu nut. Even mainstream brands like Kiehl’s and Borba are using guanabana and yerba mat because of their purity and efficacy, says Borba founder Scott Vincent Borba.
Geologix Inc. manufactures products using a proprietary formula featuring 34 natural minerals contained in the ancient sea water from the famous Michigan Basin — a concentration of minerals higher than that found in any known body of water in the world. Mineral Essentials focuses on spa, skin care, and massage products to moisturize and provide anti-aging protection for great skin. Mineral Essentials

Organic Skin Care
Natural skincare products are on the rise and products with chemical formulations are turning out to be a matter of the past. Some of the conversion comes from the feeling that something that’s “natural” has to be good and greater than something that is chemically made. This is plainly not always true, still a lot of individuals are positive that it is the truth. There’s an increasing number of Natural skincare creams and cleansers available these days. Organic skin care products supposedly help treat everything from lines to rashes. The remainder of this article will look at a few of the beneficial Herbal skin creams and the herbs they are prepared with.
Many well known herbal ingredients usually found in Herbal skin care products include Herperion, Balmflower, and Sea Buckthorn. These herbs are believed to handle skin problems like inflammation, sunburn, eczema, and even acne. Everyuth Lemon Face Wash is a cleanser that many individuals commend. It comprises of lemon, peach, and aloe vera. With the exception of aloe these products aren’t actually herbs although they are plants all the same. The important factor is that people like this face wash and say positive things about it.
Zia Natural Skincare Fresh Cleansing Gel also has optimistic reviews. It’s used to help treat skin dryness and redness. One reviewer typed that it is “A remarkable product!” and that everybody needs to “watch for bargains wherever it is available!” However, a few users complain about its price and smell.
An intriguing matter to observe about Herbal skincare cleansers includes the meaning of “herbal”. It appears that “herbs” can refer to any kind of plant ranging from fruit to seaweed. Emu Oil is even considered to be “herbal”. Plainly, there are a lot of plants and herbs that are used in skincare products, but are they really what makes some products effective? Or is the success established by some other ingredients that aren’t so natural? Buyers need an impressive Herbal skin care cleanser that is made up of only true Herbal ingredients.

Homemade Skin Care Products
Chemically supported skin care products are promptly becoming something from the past, as more and more herbal, organic creams are becoming common. Do any of these herbal, homespun products really work, though? One thing we can actually say for certain is that people who advance the use of homemade skin care creams promptly discount the strength of chemically based products. Reports also show that chemically based skincare products are not invariably as capable despite claims to the contrary by those who produce them.
Realistically it’s hopeless to approximate independent homemade creams because they tend to alter often. So rather than trying that, it’s possibly more useful to study some of the everyday constituents found in such products. The first general ingredient is avocado. Its strength is due to the presence of numerous vitamins, niacin, and iron. Avocado is commonly used for making a number of skin care creams, such as facial cleaners, exfoliants, gels, and more. The popular judgment among reviewers is that it’s usable in moisturizers but not as much in other products. It’s in particular not very useful for oily skin.
Egg is another functional factor for those who are considering homemade skincare products. The whole egg may be applied, or the white part and yolk each individually. Google search discovered formulas for masks and moisturizers. While there are legions of believers in the eggs cure, it plenty of skeptics also. One reviewer even stated that eggs “actually made my skin worse.”
While the aforesaid are just two components, they still highlight a few details. First, skincare is a really subjective thing. What may help one individual won’t work for some others. It is also troublesome to guess the potency of these components as they can be applied in a mixture of different ways. One advantage of chemically made skincare products is that you know precisely what you’re getting with each particular brand. The challenge thus lies in obtaining a homemade product that is worthy.

The Right Skin Care is Simpler Than You Think
In any discussion of skin care wrinkles will come up. No one wants them, but no one seems to know how to get rid of them. There is a lot of advice about how to prevent them, such as avoiding the sun, staying away from cigarette smoke and doing your best to stay moisturized. But, there is not much advice about how to effectively remove them, without seeing a cosmetic surgeon. Here’s some advice for those of you that would like to learn about skincare wrinkles reduction and fighting the hands of time.
They say that you are what you eat and there are thousands of studies to support that statement. Today, there’s even an anti-wrinkle diet, developed by a popular dermatologist. You don’t need to buy the book. I can give you the basics. Eat fish, fruits, vegetables and soy. Drink green tea instead of coffee. Drink plenty of water and avoid carbonated beverages.
Throw in a little red wine, some Japanese mushrooms and whole grains like wild rice. The diet that you then have is the heavily promoted anti-inflammatory diet. There is no doubt that switching from the typical American diet to diets like these will improve your overall health, may help with skincare wrinkles reduction and even problems like acne and psoriasis, but it’s hard for most people to follow them.
To attempt to get the same benefits, without totally revamping your diet, you can take a fish oil supplement and a good multi-nutritional supplement that provides most of the elements found in these kinds of diets. Even if you already have a healthy diet, a good nutritional supplement can help you look younger and feel better, too. Interestingly, the most effective, safest and most natural way to reduce wrinkling, sagging and the other signs of age is to apply some of those nutrients directly.
There has been some research concerning skin care wrinkles and people with “sun damage”. Sun damaged skin is rough, dry and wrinkled. In one study, a cream containing coenzyme Q10 (the antioxidant) was shown to improve the volunteers’ appearance, after six weeks of use, and reduce wrinkling by nearly 30%.
When sun damage is not the issue, lost firmness is the most common cause of wrinkling and, of course, sagging. When it comes to good skincare wrinkles accompanied by sagging and similar problems, the solution is a cream containing bioactive keratin.
Keratin is a protein that is plentiful in the skin’s surface. Until recently, there was no way to make it soluble and use it in creams without destroying its basic protein “function”. Bioactive keratin is a recent development. Only a few creams on the market contain it.
In clinical trials creams containing it were shown to increase firmness by over 40% in less than three weeks. If you can find a cream that contains both bioactive keratin and coenzyme Q10, buy it. The effectiveness of those two ingredients can’t be beat.
With the right skin care wrinkles can disappear. It just takes a little time.
