Within the layers of the skin are glands that produce a natural oil called sebum and this is needed in order to help keep the skin soft, supple and also protected. But there are moments when the glands can work overtime and as a result of this more oil is actually produced than what is needed. One of the reasons for this increase in oil production is that of hormonal activity which is why a number of women can get oily skin during their period and also when they are pregnant. But what makes oily skin so bad is that it is the prefect breeding ground for blemishes to appear such as acne, spots and blackheads.
